The C6th tuning was invented by steel guitar master Jerry Byrd in the 1930's. When pedals were added to steel guitars in the 1950's, a C6th pedal steel copedent evolved for the back neck. Today the standard 10 string C6th copedent is used for jazz, western swing, Hawaiian and old-time country music. New age and jazz/rock fusion musicians also tend to prefer the C6th.
The Pedalcastertm C6th copedent includes the 6 main strings from the middle of the 10 string C6th and the most standard changes used by pedal steel guitarists today. The close musical intervals of the tuning make the C6th great for fast single string licks. The pedals and levers are designed to provide a wide variety of jazz chords.
Because of its keyboard-like versatility, the Pedalcastertm C6th copedent is the one we recommend most for MIDI conversion.
